Head of Energy and Carbon Management for Thames Water. John’s responsibilities include the purchase of Thames Waters energy, the subsequent management of the company's Green generation portfolio, energy efficiency and Greenhouse Gas emissions.
Thames Water’s efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions have been recognised by case studies undertaken by the Environment Agency, Carbon Trust and, Ofwat, the water regulator.
John's first involvement in Photovoltaic generation was in 2010 with the installation of 3 MegaWatts of PV generation, a UK water industry first. Since then Thames Water have increased its PV generation to 6 MegaWatts across 41 separate sites. Whilst this offers Thames Water a financial benefit by reducing costs, It also provides a valuable contribution towards Thames Waters ambitions to reduce its Greenhouse Gas emissions by 170,000 tonnes CO2 by 2015.
